As in most major cities, such as New York and Chicago, the cost of doing business is much higher. In addition, it is a very competitive market for both tourists and locals. It is therefore not surprising that Los Angeles ranks just behind the Big Apple in terms of the fan cost index. Parking, concessions, tickets and traffic jams — all this can make the night in the Kings game an expensive proposition. Kings are also actively promoting the light rail system in Los Angeles as a less expensive way to play.

How to get there?

Anyone who has ever traveled around Los Angeles can tell you that Los Angeles is Lotta Autos. In a large metropolis there is an extensive network of highways, but remember that for the Staples Center it is important to keep in mind the I-110. and I-10, since the arena is located north of junction 110/10. It is always important to leave enough time to get through the game. We suggest you download the Staples Center app, as it includes the WAZE app, which provides up to a minute information about accidents, road construction and alternative routes that can take you to the arena faster.

Once you get to the Staple Center, parking can be a problem. The center has 3,300 rooms, but there are more than 16,000 rooms in a 10-minute walk from the arena. If you plan to park on the site owned by the Staples Center, you should first purchase a parking ticket at www.axs.com.

Staple Center lots cost $ 30, but private sites in the area can be much cheaper.

AMTRAK

Note. Amtrak passengers must purchase a separate ticket for the subway ride.

The Staples Center itself provides excellent access to each of its seating levels. There are four main entry points for the general public, and many others are reserved for season ticket holders and VIPs. Concession stands are numerous and, as a rule, the same stands take place at each level of the planting bowl. The steeples center has over 60 toilets.

One warning if you are at level 300 arena. Like many sports facilities, kings use “stage lighting” to emphasize action on ice. As a result, poor lighting is at the top level.This makes it difficult to determine the row on which you are sitting or searching for your particular place. Dimmed lighting also increases the difficulty of climbing or descending steeply inclined steps in this section.

Where to eat?

Los Angeles is one of the most diverse cities in the country, and this is reflected in the concession proposals of the Staples Center. The sellers in the arena are Blaze Pizza, BS Taqueria, Cooler by Budweiser, Dave’s Doghouse, EATS, Golden Road Brewery, Impact Sports Bar and Grill, Outtakes, Wetzel’s Pretzels and BBQ Smokehouse.

One warning… although the choice of dishes of excellent quality, you may develop indigestion when you see prices. They are one of the highest in the NHL…. I think almost 7 dollars for a hot dog. You can eat somewhere cheaper before or after the game, using the Staples Center just for snacks and drinks.

Atmosphere

You will know that you are in the right place for hockey, even before you enter the Staples Center. In front of the main entrance are statues of the Great, Wayne Gretzky, longtime captain and current grandmaster Luke Robitay, as well as longtime King Bob Miller. Another pair of statues welcomes the two victories of the Stanley team in the Cup. Kings often hold fan festivals on the street in front of the Staples Center, where all sorts of skills-related competitions take place and the opportunity to take pictures in the hockey version of Kings in the Kings game or with Bailey, the lion’s Kings talisman.

As you would expect in Hollywood and on the TV show, the Staples Center has excellent product quality. The sound system and the quality of lighting in the arena are far superior to what you find in other arenas. One of the reasons for this is the huge number of concerts held in the arena, with the participation of the best artists of the world, many of whom are also local residents. They are usually very demanding of technical teams, and the Staples Center delivers. You have to be sure that you have to be in place before the anthem, since kings have a very dramatic light show before the game when they go on the ice.

Inside the Staples Center you will find all the playoff banners that the team has won over the years, as well as the retired Jersey numbers of Rob Blake, Marcel Dionne, Dale Taylor, Luke Robitoy, Rogi Wachon and Wayne Gretzky

Neighborhood

Staples Center is located in the LA Live entertainment and sports district. LA Live has more than 20 restaurants, including Shaquille’s, Yard House and several Wolfgang Pak restaurants. The complex also includes various nightclubs, the Grammy Museum and even a bowling alley. There are several hotel brands in the area that can save you from the hassle of traffic jams on the way to the arena.

The fans

Kings are blessed with a very loyal group of subjects. The club has one of the largest subscription databases in the NHL, and most of their games are sales. Being a pioneer of hockey on the west coast of the NHL, there were doubts that sunny Southern California is a market that will support the team. However, the demographic composition of the Los Angeles area worked in its favor. Firstly, it ranks third in terms of population in the country. There are a huge number of transplants in this population that have grown on hockey in cities such as New York, Chicago, Montreal and Toronto. Los Angeles also has a large base of high-ranking executives and leaders of the entertainment industry. After several years of success, both neighboring Anaheim and San José were added to the NHL, creating two state rivals for the kings.

Kings fans early come to enjoy LA Live before heading into the arena. Despite warmer temperatures throughout the year, fans dutifully wear their black and silver Kings hockey jerseys in bulk. They are very knowledgeable about the game and speak loudly when they disagree with the call of the official. Goals are celebrated with a mini-light show and a thunder cry from the crowd.

Despite their fierce support from the team, Kings are very hospitable to visiting fans. Hockey seems to have avoided fan violence, which has affected others about franchises in Los Angeles.

Additionally

The Staples Center hosted two NHL all-star games, two Stanley Cup finals. three NBA All Star Games, eighteen Grammy Awards, four WTA Tennis Tour Championships, two NCAA Regional Men Championships in the West and eleven X Games Competitions.

If you plan to attend several sporting events at the Staples Center and buy souvenirs in each game, you can go to the Team LA store before entering the arena. The store is a licensed merchant of goods for all teams and has stores throughout the city, including LA Live. Buying your goods before you enter the game, you can not drag your goods to the place. You can also avoid paying an extra fee for an arena shopping bag, since the Staples Center has taken several green initiatives.

Seventeen former kings of players and coaches are now included in the NHL Hall of Fame. Kings broadcasters Bob Miller, Jiggs Macdonald and Nick Nixon were also honored with the Hall of Fame for their contributions to the game.

Staples Center was funded from private sources and did not pay a cent to the taxpayers.

Description

Structure and architecture

The Staples Center measures 950,000 square feet (88,257.9 m2) of total area, with an arena floor measuring 94 feet (28.7 m) by 200 feet (61.0 m). It costs 150 feet (45.7 m) in height. The arena seats up to 19,067 people for basketball, 18,340 for ice hockey and about 20,000 for concerts or other sporting events. Two-thirds of the seats in the arena, including 2,500 club seats, are located in the lower bowl. There are also 160 luxurious suites, including 15 suites for events, on three levels between the lower and upper bowls. Arena attendance record holds the fight between WBA welterweight world champion Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley with a crowd of 20,820 people.

Star Plaza

Outside the arena in Star Plaza are the statues:

  • Wayne Gretzky and Magic Johnson, although both played in the Forum, where Kings, Lakers and Sparks had previously played;
  • boxer Oscar De La Hoya;
  • the late Lakers TV presenter Chick Hearn at the Lakers desk with a chair for fans to sit behind the painting;
  • Lakers legend Jerry West dribbling;
  • Lakers Karim Abdul-Jabbar;
  • former King of the Hall of Fame of the left wing Luke Robitay;
  • Lakers Center Shaquille O’Neal;
  • legendary king broadcaster Bob Miller;
  • Laker legend Elgin Baylor.

Secret tunnel

After the NBA basketball match between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers, point guard Chris Paul had been playing at the Staples Center for 6 years, using a secret tunnel (connecting the visiting team changing room to the backyard Clipper changing room) to counter former teammates Clipper Austin Rivers and Blake Griffin. The final score of the game was 102-113. He was joined by teammates such as Trevor Ariza, James Harden and Gerald Green to confront opponents, which led only to verbal quarrels.

History

Long before the construction of the Staples Center began, the arena’s plans were discussed between elected city officials and developers Ed Rosky from Majestic Realty and Philippe Antschutz. They acquired the Los Angeles Kings hockey team and were looking for a new home for their team, which then played on the forum at Inglewood.

Majestic Realty Co. together with AEG searched the territory of Los Angeles for the availability of free space for the development of the arena, when Steve Sobor, the then president of Los Angeles for recreation and parks, approached them. Mr. Soborov asked them to consider building an arena in downtown Los Angeles near the convention center. This proposal intrigued Rosca and Anschutz, and soon a plan was developed for the development of the arena, the current Staples center.

Months of negotiations followed between Philip Anschutz and city officials with Ed Rosky and John Semken of Majestic Realty Co., who led the developer negotiations. Negotiations from time to time became controversial, and real estate developers threatened to get out of it more than once. The main opposition came from board member Joel Vaks, who objected to using government funds to subsidize the proposed project, and from board member Rita Walters, who opposed parts of it.

Eventually, developers and city leaders reached an agreement, and construction began in 1997, and the Staples Center opened a year later. It was privately funded in the amount of $ 375 million and named after the stationery supplier Staples, Inc., which was one of the corporate sponsors of the center, which paid for the title rights. The arena was opened on October 17, 1999 with a concert by Bruce Springsteen and The Street Street.

Changes were made to the arena, including the renovated locker rooms for Clippers, Kings and Lakers, as well as the installation of a new high-definition video scoreboard with a central mount replacing the original one that has been in place since the opening of the building. Panasonic Live 4HD was officially announced, as the presentations were attended by the leaders of AEG and Staples Center, as well as representatives of the players from Clippers (Craig Smith), Kings (Matt Green) and Lakers (Sasha Vujačić).
