The Riverside is located just one mile outside Chester le Street, four miles outside Durham and 10 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne.

Rail
Chester-le-Street station is served by three train operating companies. Northern Rail, CrossCountry & First TransPennine all run regular services from local & regional destinations. On busy match days, additional stops are made by trains at Chester-le-Street.

Note that East Coast services from Edinburgh and London are unable to call at Chester-le-Street: the nearest stop for East Coast is Durham.
There is a shuttle bus service available from Durham Railway Station to and from The Riverside.

The nearest Chester-le-Street has to a Bus Station is the Market Place where the bus stops have real time information (10-15 minute walk to The Riverside). However, the Market Place is not the nearest bus stop to The Riverside. The closest stops to The Riverside are two stops further south of the Market Place – at the Black Horse (for buses in both directions, north and south, a 5 – 10 minute walk to The Riverside).

Concerts
Durham Cricket is delighted to host major concerts at Seat Unique Riverside.
History
In its first three seasons in the County Championship, the Club played in a variety of locations around the country, but the Riverside ground was pronounced ready for cricket in time for the 1995 season, even though many of the buildings were still temporary or unfinished. The ground hosted its first match on 18 May 1995 and it was played between Durham and Warwickshire.

In April 2015, planning permission was granted to erect stuff permanent 55-metre floodlights around the ground. While on 16 September 2017, during the Riverside Ground hosting of England’s Twenty20 international match against West Indies, a stand in the North-East Terrace partially collapsed. Three spectators were injured, and part of the stand was evacuated.
