Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, also Nassau Coliseum or simply Coliseum is an indoor multi-functional complex in Uniondale, New York, USA. Opened in 1972. The area is 250,000 m². Used for concerts, major exhibitions and shows of various kinds. The home arena of the NHL club “New York Islanders” from 1972 to 2015.

The islanders use a variable price, but for cheaper games, value cannot be defeated. The best places are actually in the lower ranks of the 200 sections, and you can get them for less than $50 for less desirable opponents. Keep in mind that the upper rows have a view of the board, covered with a roof.

If you decide to drive, parking costs $25, but this can be avoided, since you can park on residential streets through the Hempstead Pass.

Despite the fact that the food is also quite expensive, the return on investment is not ideal, but still great for this old barn and first place team.

Ford parking

Parking rules

Ford parking will open two hours before opening the doors to the event. Seats for veterans, regular visitors and VIPs will be allocated. Parking fee depends on the type of event. All parking tickets are valid for one vehicle space and are general tolerances, with the exception of the places marked VIP and ADA. Purchased parking tickets must be presented at the entrance to the tray either through a mobile or in printed form. Failure to comply with the parking rules may result in towing at the expense of the owner.

Buying parking

Parking tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com when purchasing an event ticket. At the Ford car park, high-speed lanes will be allocated for regular customers who purchase parking in advance. Parking on the day of the event will be available for purchase in cash or by credit card.

Vip Parking

VIP parking is available for Long Access All Access members and will be available for purchase at Ticketmaster Account Manager. Parking attendants will send those who have a NYCB LIVE VIP parking ticket to their designated area. Please note that you will need to show your VIP parking ticket at the entrance to the Ford parking and again at the entrance to the VIP lot.

Disabled parking

Disabled parking is available in the Ford car park. Parking attendants will send to these areas those who have a NYCB LIVE parking ticket and a valid state permit for disabled parking and/or a license plate. All disabled parking is available at a GA price designated for this particular event.

Public code access ramps are available at NYCB LIVE, where the main entrance to the Nassau Memorial Coliseum is situated.

Tailgating policy:

• The back door is limited to the zone immediately in front of or behind your vehicle;
• Empty spaces can NOT be used for the rear door;
• Visitors can NOT reserve additional places for themselves or others;
• Fans may not pay for additional parking space (only 1 space per vehicle);
• The back door is NOT allowed after the event;
• A ticket holder who may have more than one prepaid parking permit is not allowed to use adjacent spaces for the back door;
• The aligned parking spaces are for vehicles, not for rear doors;
• Outbound catering companies are not allowed;
• Illegal sales and organized distribution of food and beverages is prohibited.

Tailgating Safety:

• Please remove all trash from your site and put it in the provided waste containers;
• Please keep valuables out of sight;
• Please lock your car before entering the event;
• Grills and open flames are not allowed;
• Fryers or any cooking on an oil basis or frying is prohibited.

Transport

NYCB LIVE, home of Nassau Memorial Coliseum, is available by Long Island Rail and local transport.

Take Long Island Rail to Hempstead Rail Station, go one (1) block to Hempstead Bus Station. Take the N70, N71 or N72 bus that will take you to Hempstead Turnpike opposite NYCB LIVE, or take the LIRR to Westbury Train Station and order a taxi or a car.

There is no waiting to enter, but as soon as you find yourself inside, you will find a hall where there will be a lot of people before the game and during the break. Concession lines and rest rooms are also very crowded; so you could hardly do both in one intermission.

Where to eat?

All concession stands have some food that is labeled “The Taste of Long Island”, and Smokin ‘Al and Roast Sandwich House barbecues are the most tempting options. Mexican and Greek stands are also found along the hall. The main problem here is that the prices are what you pay in Manhattan, with chicken tenders that cost $14, a cheeseburger for $12, and a hot dog for $7 from Nathan. A typical fare for a stadium includes french fries, pretzels and popcorn (each for $7), and chips and candy cost $6.

Pepsi products cost $6 for a small soda or a bottle of water and $13 (yes thirteen dollars) for a souvenir cup. Beer ranges from $14 to $16, depending on whether you want to or draft, homemade or handicraft. In any case, you get a shaft.

Atmosphere

Nassau Coliseum is the last of the old barns. There are no suites that would push the upper deck to the bleeding area, so the visitors are right on top of the action, and during the action you can hear a hum. So it was before when corporate money sent real fans upstairs and left many stadiums without atmosphere. The organ plays, Sparky the Dragon throws up T-shirts, and the joints jump when the islanders play well.

There are three levels of seating: sections with two figures, situated closest to the ice (10 rows), level 100 (10 rows) and level 200 (16 rows). So, if you are in the third row of level 200, you are just 23 rows from the ice; this is usually a low spot on a new rink. Note that on the sides, the first row of seats behind the glass is the AA row, and there is some space between the seats and the glass that other fans pass through to get to their seats.

Between the 100s and 200s there is an internal passage that allows you to easily move around the rink without having access to the hall, which can be very crowded during breaks. Wooden panels along this path are quite attractive and give the object a serious look.

Dozens of posters are dedicated to both the great inhabitants of the islanders and all their titles, including these four Stanley cups back in the early 1980s. Some banners for ABA stars also hang from rafters, along with one of which is marked by 34 sold-out Billie Joel shows.

Neighborhood

Walking distance is nothing but McDonald’s, Chipotle and Starbucks via the Hempstead Highway. To the north of the venue there is Westbury, where you can find typical eateries networks, such as Buffalo Wild Wings, TGI Fridays and Applebee’s. A more local option in this zone is Canz Bar and Grill; you should be able to conclude that this institution is similar to Hooters.

Between Westbury and the rink is the Museum Series, which includes a children’s museum dedicated to firefighters and the cradle of aviation. Meanwhile, Hofstra University is just a few minutes’ walk to the west, and sometimes you can see a college basketball game in the afternoon before the island’s residents play in the evening.

The fans

The islanders’ fans, as a rule, are excellent, but they did not sell out the game, in which the top team of the Western Conference participated. In addition, those who sat in this were very negative in spite of the fact that their team was on top of the metropolitan . With such a small capacity, it would be nice to see Islander fans taking this temporary move to the Nassau Coliseum selling every game.

Banners deserve special attention, as well as the overall reconstruction.

One great touch to the venue name is eight empty seats scattered around the seat. Each place is marked with a patch and a plate dedicated to the army, navy, air force, marines and the coast guard, as well as to prisoners of war who are missing and more than 500 long islanders who died on September 11, 2001.

Project reconstruction

Shortly after the Islanders announced their move to Brooklyn, Forest City Enterprises, the owner of the Barclays Center, was selected to explore development opportunities in the Coliseum in Nassau. As a result of this study, a request was made for a proposal to turn the venue into a smaller place and an adjacent parking lot into an entertainment center with shops, sports bars and stores.

It was presented four competing proposals, and Nassau County Executive Director Edward Mangano chose two finalists, including one from the group led by Forest City Ratner. Ratner’s proposal included reducing the capacity of the Coliseum to 13,000 seats and reconstructing the internal and concrete facade of the venue, designed by SHoP Architects, the firm that designed the Barclays Center, which would cost the group about $89 million. As part of his offer, the islanders will play 6 matches in the stadium season, Brooklyn networks will play one show game, and the minor league hockey team will call the arena home.

Nassau County announced that Forest City had won a tender for the reconstruction of the Nassau Coliseum and its adjacent property, pending the approval of the Nassau legislature and the introduction of changes in the zoning of the Hempstead city government. The Nassau County Legislative Assembly unanimously approved the proposal.

Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment has entered into a naming rights agreement with the New York Public Bank. The transaction with the district obliges to include the “Memorial Coliseum of Nassau Veterans” in the name of the stadium. Cost of title and term the actions of the agreement were not disclosed.

The islanders played a pre-season game against the Philadelphia Flyers, their first appearance in the updated Coliseum.
