Yerry Fernando Mina González is a Colombian professional footballer who is known as a centre-back for Premier League club Everton and the Colombia national team. He is one one of the top goal scoring defenders in a single World Cup, with three scored at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Jeremy Mathieu

Jérémy Mathieu is a French former professional footballer who played as a centre-back or a left-back.

Mathieu made 172 Ligue 1 appearances across seven seasons, split equally between Sochaux and Toulouse. He played five seasons in La Liga with Valencia before joining Barcelona in 2014, where he won the treble in his first season.

An international for France from 2011 to 2016, Mathieu was selected in the squad to represent France at UEFA Euro 2016 but dropped out with injury.

Yaya Toure

Gnégnéri Yaya Touré is an Ivorian professional football coach and a former player who played as a midfielder. He is also known as an assistant coach of Russian club Akhmat Grozny.

Touré aspired to be a striker during his youth and has played centre-back, including for Barcelona in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. However, he has spent the majority of his career as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country, where he has been regarded as one of the world’s best players in his position. One of the greatest African players of all time, Touré was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Touré began his playing career at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, where he made his debut at age 18. His performances attracted attention from Europe. He had stints with Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos and Monaco before moving to Barcelona in 2007. He played over 100 matches for the club and was part of the historic 2009 Barcelona side that won six trophies in a calendar year. In 2010, Touré moved to Premier League club Manchester City, where he scored a number of key goals, most notably the only goals in the 2011 FA Cup semi-final and final. He also helped City earn their first league title in 44 years.

Touré earned 100 caps for the Ivory Coast from 2004 to 2015, representing the nation at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments. He also represented them in six Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015, helping them finish runner-up in 2006 and 2012, while captaining them to victory in 2015. He is the younger brother of fellow footballer Kolo Touré, who was his teammate at Manchester City and for the national team.

Roger Garcia

Roger García Junyent, known simply as Roger, is a Spanish former footballer who played mostly as a left midfielder. He possessed a strong shot, and was known for his passing ability.

He spent most of his career at FC Barcelona, without much success, going on to represent three other teams until his retirement, including one abroad. When fit, he played an important part in Villarreal’s La Liga consolidation.

Roger’s career was significantly hampered by injuries, and he retired from football at the age of 30, amassing Spanish top division totals of 247 matches and 28 goals.

Fernando Couto

Fernando Manuel Silva Couto, OIH is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a centre back.

During a 21-year professional career, he played in a number of top clubs in Portugal, Spain and Italy (12 seasons in the latter country), appearing in nearly 600 competitive matches and winning the double in each country, as well as three UEFA trophies.

At international level, Couto represented the Portuguese national team in 110 games, taking part in the 2002 World Cup as well as three European Championships.

Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He made 653 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Bromwich Albion, one of the highest appearance numbers in the Premier League. He also represented England at international level.

Barry moved to Aston Villa from Brighton & Hove Albion as a youngster, and spent 12 years at the club. He captained Aston Villa and is at the top of their all-time list of appearances, with 441 across all competitions, including 365 in the Premier League. He joined Manchester City for a fee of £12 million in June 2009, where he won the FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title the following season. After a season on loan, he joined Everton on a three-year contract in July 2014, and on its expiration he signed for West Bromwich Albion.

Barry is a former England international, having won his first full cap in 2000 and captained the side in 2010 in a friendly against Egypt. He earned 53 caps in total, scoring 3 goals, and was included in England’s squads at UEFA Euro 2000 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Barry announced his retirement from football on 27 August 2020.

Mariano Díaz

Mariano Díaz Mejía, known as Mariano, is a professional footballer who is known as a striker for Spanish club Real Madrid.

Shortly after making his debut for Badalona in 2011, Mariano joined Real Madrid, where he played in the C-team and then the reserves, where he was top scorer in the 2015–16 Segunda División B. He then began playing with the first team, and was part of their squad that won La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2016–17. He was subsequently signed by Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais but returned to Madrid one year later.

Mariano was born in Spain to a Spanish father and a mother from the Dominican Republic. He played and scored in a friendly match for the Dominican Republic national team in 2013. He then retired from the Dominican Republic team in the hopes of representing Spain.

Eric García

Eric García Martret is a Spanish professional footballer who is known as a centre-back for La Liga club Barcelona and the Spain national team.

García moved from Barcelona at the age of 17 to Manchester City. He made his Premier League debut on 21 September 2019. In his final season at the club, he won the league and was runner-up in the UEFA Champions League. He rejoined Barcelona ahead of the 2021–22 season after the expiration of his Man City contract.

Šime Vrsaljko

Šime Vrsaljko is a Croatian professional footballer who is known as a full-back for La Liga club Atlético Madrid and the Croatian national team.

Vrsaljko made his debut for Croatia in 2011 and went on to represent his country at the UEFA European Championship in 2012, 2016 and 2020, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and 2018, reaching the final of the latter tournament.

Papu Gómez

Alejandro Darío Gómez, known as Papu Gómez, is an Argentine professional footballer who is known as a forward, winger or attacking midfielder for Spanish club Sevilla and the Argentina national team.

Gómez started his club career in his home country with Arsenal de Sarandí, before joining San Lorenzo in 2009. The following year, he was signed by Italian club Catania. In 2013, he joined Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv, where he remained for a single season, before returning to Italy to play for Atalanta. In 2019–20, Gómez set the Serie A record for most assists in a single season with sixteen, and was named to the Serie A Team of the Year.

Although he was born in Argentina, Gómez is a dual citizen of Argentina and Italy, having gained Italian citizenship on 14 May 2016, as his wife is an Italian citizen. He made his senior international debut for Argentina in a friendly against Singapore in 2017, during which he also scored his first international goal. He later took part in Argentina’s victorious 2021 Copa América campaign.

Simon Kjær

Simon Thorup Kjær is a Danish professional footballer who is known as a centre-back for Serie A club Milan and captain of the Denmark national team.

He was named 2007 Danish under-19 talent of the year and 2009 Danish Talent of the Year. Kjær has played more than 110 matches for Denmark, including participation at the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and 2018, and the UEFA European Championship in 2012 and 2020.

Daniele Rugani

Daniele Rugani is an Italian professional footballer who is known as a centre-back for Serie A club Juventus.

Rugani began his professional club career with Empoli in Serie B in 2013, where he immediately helped the club achieve Serie A promotion, and was named the 2014 Serie B Footballer of the Year. His defensive performances the following season saw him named to the 2015 Serie A Team of the Year, and earned him a transfer to Juventus, where he won five consecutive Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

At the international level, he has represented the Italy U21 team at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2015 and 2017, and made his senior debut for Italy in 2016.

Lorenzo Insigne

Lorenzo Insigne is an Italian professional footballer who is known as a forward and captain for Serie A club Napoli and the Italy national team.

Insigne began his professional career with Napoli in 2009, making his Serie A debut in 2010, but was later sent on consecutive season loan spells to Cavese, Foggia and Pescara, before returning to Napoli in 2012. Insigne is capable of playing on either flank, or through the centre, but is usually deployed as left winger. He is known in particular for his creativity, speed and technical ability, as well as his accuracy from free-kicks.

Insigne has represented the Italy national under-21 team, with which he won a runner-up medal at the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He made his debut for the senior team in September 2012, and has represented Italy at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2016, and UEFA Euro 2020, winning the latter tournament.

Marash Kumbulla

Marash Nikolin Kumbulla is an Albanian professional footballer who is known as a defender for Italian Serie A club Roma, on loan from Hellas Verona. Born in Italy, he represents the Albania national team.

Kumbulla made his senior debut for the Albania national football team on 14 October 2019, in a 4–0 away win against Moldova in a Euro 2020 qualifier. He came on for Ardian Ismajli in the 89th minute.

Reece James

Reece James is an English professional footballer who is known as a right-back for Premier League club Chelsea and the England national team.

James joined the Chelsea academy as a youth and turned professional in 2017, a season where he captained the under-18s to victory in the FA Youth Cup and was named Academy Player of the Season. A productive loan spell with Wigan Athletic of the Championship saw him promoted to the Chelsea first team upon his return in 2019, after which he began to establish himself as a regular fixture at right-back and earn a long-term contract extension in January 2020.

After representing England at various youth levels, James was called up to the full international side for the first time in October 2020, earning his first cap against Wales.

Anthony Gordon

Anthony Michael Gordon is an English professional footballer who is known as an attacking midfielder for Premier League club Everton and the England national under-20 team.

Having represented his country at U18 and U19 level, Gordon made his debut for the England U20s during a 2–0 victory over Wales at St. George’s Park on 13 October 2020.

Mohamed Elyounoussi

In June 2011, Elyounoussi was called up for the Norway U-17 team.

In November 2013, he was called up to the senior Norwegian national team for their January 2014 international matches in Abu Dhabi.
