Age Adjusted
In the context of sports, particularly in analyzing player performance, age adjustment is used to level the playing field when comparing athletes of different ages. For example, in football, when evaluating players’ statistics or physical attributes, age adjustment allows us to compare players who might be at different stages of their careers.
Here’s an example of age adjustment in football:
Let’s say we want to compare the goal-scoring records of two players, Player A and Player B. Player A is 20 years old, and Player B is 30 years old. Player B, being older, has had more time to accumulate goals throughout their career. To make a fair comparison, we can use age adjustment to determine the number of goals each player would have scored per season on average.
If Player A has scored 40 goals in 4 seasons (average of 10 goals per season), and Player B has scored 300 goals in 15 seasons (average of 20 goals per season), after age adjustment, we might find that both players have a similar average goal-scoring rate per season, making the comparison more equitable.
