Streak
The word “streak” in American football can relate to two distinct ideas:
The most popular use of the term “streak” is “winning or losing streak,” which describes a team’s run of consecutive victories or defeats. A team may be considered to be in a “five-game winning streak” if they have triumphed in their previous five games.
Streak Route: A receiver’s type of route can sometimes be referred to as a “streak” while discussing plays and plans. A streak route—a “fly route” or “go route”—is a straight route down the field to outpace the opposing defense to complete a deep ball. This is a standard move to extend the defense vertically or take advantage of speed mismatches.
Both of these terms’ usages are rather frequent, and the context in which they are used usually makes apparent what they imply specifically.
