Lombardi Trophy
The Lombardi Trophy is an American football prize commemorating the best team of the NFL. It’s the name of the Super Bowl. Don’t confuse it with Lombardi Award from collegiate football. The latter is an individual award, honouring the best linemen from offense and defense.
Interesting that the representative of Tiffany&Co. presented the project of the trophy on the cocktail napkin. Every trophy is a unique thing produced by the developers. Its parameters are stable – the height is 22 inches, and the weight 7 pounds.
Unlike some other titles, any team who wins the NFL championship, leaves the cup permanently in the franchise museum. The reason is that the number of Super Bowl is engraved onto the base of the cup. After the game, Tiffany&Co. gets the cup back as its specialists engrave the match details, including the names of participants, date, location, and the final result. Then the company sends the cup to the winner, plus personal copies for players and personnel. The only exception to the tradition is the Baltimore Colts’ Super Bowl V trophy retained in the city after their relocation to Indianapolis. The Colts and their successors Ravens have won their personal trophies.
Another Super Bowl cup got a dent in it. Rob Gronkowski from the New England Patriots used the Super Bowl LIII as a bat to prepare for the ceremonial first pitch in the 2019 Boston Red Sox season opener. As a result, the baseball left a dent in it. The team owners decided to keep the dent until somebody fixed it in the future.
