Excessive timeouts
The excessive timeouts are a great American football paradox. Regular rules allow only three timeouts per game half. When the team uses them, it can’t control the game in such a way anymore. But the injury requires the timeout, so the team exploits the excessive timeout.
This timeout is used only to replace the player after the injury. The first timeout comes without consequences. The league prohibits faking an injury to stop the clock. A penalty isn’t required when the ball comes out of bounds or inside a two-minute warning. These plays immediately stop the clock without the necessity to initiate the timeout. Besides, the offending coach call for an auxiliary timeout without the injured player will bring a five-yard penalty to its team. The play resumes without granting the timeout.
