4-3 defense

The 4-3 defense is the defensive formation that uses four defensive linemen and three linebackers behind. This formation is rougher, targeting the sturdy offenses. Linemen position to stop more primary blockers, their colleagues engage the runners or block the passes. It has the option of using the fifth defensive back. Depending its position, the formation becomes nickelized or dollar, opening new strategic designs for both teams.

This defense has a great dilemma with using the defensive ends. Their quantity isn’t enough to complete all tasks. Defensive ends create pressure on the quarterback. They are smaller than other linemen, that’s why they need to have excessive power against the offensive tackles. Over and under front versions of the 4-3 defense compensate for this disadvantage with additional nose tackle.

The system needs 3 linebackers behind the line. Mike is an athletic performer who has leading qualities. Its nickname is the defensive quarterback. This linebacker has two outside colleagues. Their task is to blitz the quarterback and correct the fails of the defenders.
