3rd and 1
What 3rd and 1 in football?
How does the offense continue the game after 3rd and 1 fail?
The third and one (3rd&1) is the most desirable situation for the offense. They need to gain one yard to achieve the first down line. Most coaches and/or quarterbacks call running play to increase the coverage and avoid the fourth and final down. These cases are frequent after a two-minute warning when the risk of incompletion of the final down is high.
The offense has one of three options to rehabilitate for the fail in third and one down. They can release the dropkick and lose possession. That’s the punt in other words. A field goal is an alternative way effective when the team passed 40-yard line or further. The offense runs a play in the fourth down. Further failure is equal to the loss of possession.
