How to understand a hockey term Extra Attacker?
What is the definition of Extra Attacker in hockey?
Extra Attacker is when the goalie is pulled from the net in exchange for an extra player.
This is typically done if there’s a delayed penalty because once the opposition touches the puck the whistle is blown (stopping their ability to shoot on the open net). It also occurs frequently when a team is down by 1 or 2 goals with little time remaining in the game, by exchanging the goalie for an extra attacker it can increase their chances to even the score.
