What is the term defender for in ice hockey?
Defender is one of the roles of a field player. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). In ice hockey, there are nominally two defenders in the top five. Their playing style and behavior on the field depends on the tactics of the team or the individual five. Also, in each area of the site there are defense postulates on which subsequent interactions between players are built.
