The numbers on cricketers’ shirts help identify a player to the officials, commentators, or even the spectators. The numbers on the front of a player’s shirt indicate the chronological position of their appearance for a particular country. Whereas, numbers on the back are typically self-chosen. However, these numbers are not always just useful for commentators or spectators alone. Sometimes, the jersey numbers of cricketers have much larger personal significance.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a Bangladeshi international cricket player known for playing Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Bangladesh national team. A bowling-all-rounder, he is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler. Over the years, Mehidy emerged as one of the most talented cricket players as he reached the top of ODI rankings. In November 2018, against the West Indies, he took the best match figures for a Bangladesh bowler in a Test match. In February 2021, he scored his maiden century in Tests against the West Indies. In the same series, he became one of the fastest bowlers for Bangladesh, in terms of matches, to take 100 wickets in Test cricket, doing so in his 24th match. In 2021, he became the No. 2 ODI bowler in ICC Rankings, the third Bangladeshi bowler ever to hold that position; the other two being Shakib Al Hasan and Abdur Razzak.

Ramnaresh Sarwan

Ramnaresh Ronnie Sarwan is a cricketer of Indo-Guyanese origin and a former member and former captain of the West Indies cricket team, in all formats.

He was named as captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2013 inaugural tournament of the Caribbean Premier League.

For much of his career, Sarwan wore a bandana under his helmet whilst batting, but dropped the practice due to a change in the design of helmet. He shared the habit of his fellow countrymen Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Narsingh Deonarine of marking his guard with a bail.

Nuwan Thushara is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in February 2022.
