13 jersey number in cricket

The numbers on cricketers’ shirts help identify a player to the officials, commentators, or even the spectators. The numbers on the front of a player’s shirt indicate the chronological position of their appearance for a particular country. Whereas, numbers on the back are typically self-chosen. However, these numbers are not always just useful for commentators or spectators alone. Sometimes, the jersey numbers of cricketers have much larger personal significance.

Kusal Mendis

Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis, known as Kusal Mendis, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays all forms of the game. He only played sixteen first-class matches before playing for the national side. He usually bats at number three in all formats. In November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket’s annual awards.

Matthew Wade

Matthew Scott Wade is an Australian cricketer. He’s known for playing with the Australian national team as wicket-keeper in all three forms of international cricket and domestic cricket for the Tasmanian cricket team, also acting as the team’s captain. He chose to play domestic Twenty20 cricket for the Hobart Hurricanes.

In December 2020, Wade captained Australia for the first time in international cricket.

Blair Tickner

Blair Marshall Tickner is a New Zealand cricketer known for playing with Central Districts. He made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in February 2019.

Tickner took at hat-trick in the first innings for Central District’s match against Wellington in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season.

In the 2017–18 Super Smash, he was the leading wicket-taker, with twenty-one dismissals in eleven matches. He was awarded a contract with Central Districts for the 2018–19 season.

Tickner was named in New Zealand’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against India. He made his T20I debut against India on 10 February 2019. In 2020, he was called up to New Zealand’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the third match against India.

Tickner was also named in the New Zealand A cricket team for practice matches against the touring West Indies team. He was then named in New Zealand’s ODI squad for their tour of Pakistan.

In 2022, Tickner was named in New Zealand’s Test squad for their series against South Africa. The following, Tickner was named in New Zealand’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their home series against the Netherlands. He made his ODI debut on 29 March 2022, for New Zealand against the Netherlands.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj is an Indian cricketer known for playing with Hyderabad in domestic cricket, Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, and the India national cricket team.

Siraj made his first-class debut under the coaching of Karthik Udupa playing for Hyderabad in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournament. He made his Twenty20 debut on in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. During the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournament, he was the highest wicket-taker for Hyderabad with 41 wickets at an average of 18.92.

He was then bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for 2.6 crores. Following this, he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auction.

He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 23 dismissals in seven matches. He was named in India A’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy, and in India B’s squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.

He became the first bowler in the history of Indian Premier League to bowl back to back maiden overs in a single match.

Internationally, he was named in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against New Zealand in 2017. He made his T20I debut for India against New Zealand, taking the wicket of Kane Williamson, finishing with figures of 1 wicket for 53 runs from four overs.

Siraj was named in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. He was also named in India’s Test squad for their series against the West Indies, but did not play. In 2018, he was named in India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Australia, and made his ODI debut against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on 15 January 2019.

In 2020, Siraj was named in India’s Test squad for their series against Australia. After some deliberation to choose between Navdeep Saini and Siraj following an injury to Mohammad Shami, Siraj was chosen ahead of Saini, and he made his Test debut for India against Australia. His first Test wicket was of Marnus Labuschagne. In 2021, during the fourth Test of the series against Australia, Siraj took his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Wiaan Mulder

Pieter Willem Adriaan Mulder, known as Wiaan Mulder, is a South African professional cricketer. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the South Africa national cricket team in October 2017 before going on to make his Test cricket debut in March 2019. Domestically he decided to play for Highveld Lions and Gauteng.

Mulder was born at Johannesburg and educated at St Stithians College in the city. He played age-group cricket for Gauteng from under-13 level onwards.

Tendai Chatara

Tendai Larry Chatara is an international cricketer known for representing the Zimbabwe national cricket team. A tall, wiry fast bowler with appreciable pace and the ability to move the ball away from the right-hander, Chatara has risen quickly to prominence since his first-class debut for Mountaineers in 2009. Though he was not good academically in school, he is one of the most talented pace prospects of his country.

Chatara is naturally athletic. He represented his hometown Manicaland in 200 and 400 m events, before getting a call-up to cricket.

Harry Tector

Harry Tom Tector is an Irish cricketer. He was part of Ireland’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his full international debut for the Ireland cricket team in September 2019. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.
