Bleeder
What is bleeder in baseball?
What are recommendantions for runner?
The bleeder is too poor hit ball that goes as the base hit. It gives the opportunity for the runner to reach its target safely. There are some recommendations for runners on how to behave themselves when they see the bleeder.
Run as hard as possible. Just put the head down and run efficiently just after the bat hits the ball. Make three steps and look at the ball. If it is still infield, increase your speed to reach the second base. Or, at least, the first bag.
Keep an eye on the front part of the bag. It’s the essential and closest part where the umpire records the contact with the base. The contact with the back or side part leads to turning the player’s ankle because of its speed at that moment.
Plan the route. The art of evaluation is important for the runner. It must be ready to build a safe route to get the base at any moment. So the player estimates the positions of its teammates and defensive team before the play starts. This skill will help to protect itself from problems.
Feet position. They must turn towards the planned direction. Some players have the talent to circle and run quickly in the opposite direction. In most cases, it’s just a waste of time and risk of out.
Watch the pitcher. The view on pitcher discovers its plans. Pitchers usually follow the first base, so it will be useful to start the run to the second base. This plan has two dangers. The first is that the pitcher notices it. It may also be too early and causes out. The best idea is to observe the interval to pitcher’s lifting move. That gives the runner valuable information about the stride. It can try to steal the base before the catcher receives the ball.
